Proactive Initiatives by Aviation Safety India-Precautions Pilgrimage Flying
Dear Sir/Madam,
Greetings.
Aviation Safety India remains dedicated to promoting the Safety of Aviation Operations across the Country.
During the last year, a number of avoidable and unfortunate occurrences have tarnished the reputation of the helicopter industry and shaken the confidence of travelers. These occurrences highlight the urgent need to address safety issues during pilgrimage operations with collective, consistent, and dedicated efforts.
Safety must remain the foremost priority—always and without compromise. Another mishap could not only damage the reputation of helicopter operators, pilots, engineers, and supporting staff but also severely impact the financial stability of the companies involved.
It is therefore imperative that all stakeholders—regulators, operators, pilots, engineers, AMEs, technicians, and ground staff—work together with vigilance, discipline, and a shared commitment to Safety. By reinforcing a culture of accountability and preparedness, the industry can restore public trust and ensure the safe conduct of Helicopter Operations during the pilgrimage season.
The Pilgrimage Flying Operations at Char Dham are commencing soon. Helicopter operations at these sites—particularly Kedarnath and other Char Dham helipads—are highly demanding and call for the highest standards of professionalism, vigilance, and supervision by DGCA and Operators.
Pilots and engineers must remain fully knowledgeable, skillful, and alert throughout the operations, avoiding any complacency, overconfidence, or casual approach.
DGCA has been proactive in ensuring safe and efficient helicopter operations at pilgrimage sites and has issued a comprehensive Ops Circular 02/23 covering key aspects of these operations.
To facilitate better understanding, Aviation Safety India has uploaded the following video presentations for Operators, Pilots, and Maintenance Staff:
- Ops Circular 02/23 – Pilgrimage Operations: https://youtu.be/mLqevOB1P0I
- Helicopter Operations – Kedarnath Helipad: https://youtu.be/qNxVGSLGmFY
- Precautions – Pilgrimage Flying: https://youtu.be/1DLnI30pbUM
These presentations highlight critical precautions, do’s and don’ts, and operational guidelines. All stakeholders are encouraged to watch them to refresh their knowledge and reinforce safe practices.
Time-to-time guidance, monitoring, and supervision by DGCA, UCADA, and Operators—combined with the preparedness and involvement of Pilots, Engineers, AMEs, Technicians, and support staff—will go a long way in ensuring the safety and efficiency of helicopter operations during the pilgrimage season.
Thanking You
With warm Regards
